Nutrition And Wellbeing

Different nutrients, vitamins and minerals have a direct effect on your overall nutrition and wellbeing.  Various foods affect your brain, and influence how you feel and think.  Eating the right food for your situation can help your energy levels, your metabolism and to achieve healthy weight loss.

So how can you alter your diet and lifestyle to help you feel better - more energetic, clearly focused, and living life to the full?

What is Good Nutrition?

Three main energy nutrients that key to changing how you feel are a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat whole food sources.

Carbohydrates - not all carbohydrate foods are optimum sources of nutrients.  Some foods like sweets, white bread, soft drinks and cookies, make your blood sugar levels rise and then swiftly drop back down. These sugar levels can cause ups and downs in your energy and moods. If you have noticed feeling tired, upset, and not able to concentrate after eating these foods, then replacing them with healthy vegetables, fruits, whole grains and nuts can have a better effect on your body.

Protein - if you want to improve your energy levels, concentration or mood, you can add some protein to your meals.  Protein is best for maintaining your metabolism and keeping up your energy levels.  Proteins break down into the amino acids, which stimulate the production of the neurotransmitters  to increase your alertness and energy.  Including protein in your daily eating plan, such as low carb snacks will help keep hunger down between meals.

Fats - some fats are good for you, and some are detrimental in large amounts.  Your body needs omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fats in balance to help your brain and heart function well. Fats also help reduce inflammation in the body, keep blood pressure levels even, and promote healthy circulation throughout the body.  The key to good nutrition is for you to get the right balance of fats in your diet.

Nutritional Supplement - supplements which contain vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants are an important part of an overall healthy diet.  Vitamins and minerals play a critical role in helping you sustain optimal health and in preventing illness and disease.  Many vitamins and minerals are hard to get solely from the foods we eat, as there are many environmental factors impacting on our food supply.
